Submitting my Novel “White Fawn” for Publication

A literary historical novel grounded in Civil War-era Eastern North Carolina, White Fawn follows a boy on the verge of manhood as he navigates a world where the requirements of survival and the tenets of morality are so often at odds with each other, and every choice made and every action taken might result in terrible consequences. The novel weaves documented history with subtle magical realism, inviting readers to question what is seen and what is felt in a world not far removed from our own.

Story Synopsis: “In 1864 North Carolina, twelve-year-old Caelan MacIver labors alongside freedmen at his father’s tannery while haunted by visions of a white fawn and a strange young child-spirit. He earns the chance to accompany his father on a delivery to a nearby Union fort, but Confederate deserters ambush them on the road, killing his father and taking the boy to their camp. Caelan embarks on a there-and-back-again journey that takes him to the very boundary between life and death, where he is tasked by the child-spirit, who has been avoiding her own birth, to prove this world, however cruel, is worth living in.”

After a year immersed in novel writing, I’m actively seeking collaborations with creatives across theatre, film, performance, and experimental mediums. I love every part of the collaboration process, from the sparks of inspiration that compound during co-creation to problem-solving conversations to the accountability that comes from working toward shared goals!
